During the 6th creative period, Elohim created the human race, both male, and female (Genesis 1:26-27). God says to “them” to “Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion… over all the Earth” (Genesis 1:26, Genesis 1:28). The second chapter of Genesis appears to focus in, on a particular man. Man was created from the dust of the ground (Genesis 2:7).
Jehovah plants a garden in a place called Eden and the man is put in this garden. (Genesis 2:8, Genesis 2:15). Also, in that garden are two special trees, “The Tree of Life” and “The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil” (Genesis 2:9). The man is put into the garden “to dress is and to keep it” (Genesis 2:15). Jehovah gives the man a commandment not to eat “of the tree of knowledge of good and evil” and if he does the man will die (Genesis 2:16-17).
Jehovah suggests that is not good for the man to be alone and decides to make companions for him. (Genesis 2:18-20). At this point, הָאָדָם is translated as “Adam”. Previously, הָאָדָם it was translated as “man” or “the man”. The term Adam first appears in (Genesis 2:19). It is important to note that the Hebrew word for man or Adam are generally the same and are translated interchangeably throughout the Old Testament (1).
The first male human or “the man” has traditionally been called “Adam”. Adam is considered to be the first man created by Jehovah (2). Some people are sensitive about the patriarchal dominance in the bible and our society, so some translations have chosen to translate הָאָדָם as “human” or “the human”. I have no problem with that translation, it appears to be appropriate. I also do not have a problem with it being translated as “man”.
The further you read it becomes transparent that this “human” is a male human. Which in English is properly be expressed as “man”. Jehovah creates or brings the animal of the earth to Adam. Adam names these animals, but none fully satisfies the problem of him being alone (Genesis 2:18-20). A new approach is taken. Jehovah put Adam in a sleeping state. Out of Adam Jehovah, God commands Adam and Eve to not eat from the tree of Good and Evil.
Adam at the beckoning of Eve chooses to eat of the Tree of Good and Evil. Adam is cast out of the Garden of Eden. After leaving the Garden of Eden Adam has two sons first Cain and then his brother Abel.
